I received a letter claiming that it was from the people who bought my car loan (Merriwest Credit Union). This means going to the website and entering your personal insurance information. It is printed on grade r paper and has English grammar. Threatening to add money to my debt balance if I do not cooperate. Turns out it's not phishing.

This is an increasingly common pattern, they create actionable threats and make them look like spam / phishing so that if you ignore them they can attack you further. Write down what you can do with companies that treat you well for referrals.
